UP Oakland Intermodal Ramp is starting to see a significant increase in bans on the draymen. This is not because anything has changed on the ramp but we believe there are many new drivers on the port who do not understand how UP Oakland Ramp works. We are all safe on this ramp.

The UP recently had an accident in LA with a truck not obeying stop signs while crossing railroad tracks on the UP Ramp. As a result, it collided with a locomotive and the driver needed to be airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. The Oakland Ramp is conducting a Safety Blitz on Stop Sign and Speed Limits (15 MPH) compliance and will continue to audit on a regular basis.

Each work shift should begin with a job safety briefing that covers any risks that may affect your safety and the safety of those around you. Make sure that you clearly understand how the work is to be safely performed. Ask questions if you have them. Take a moment to re-brief whenever the task or circumstances change.
