UP Oakland Intermodal Ramp is starting to see a significant increase in bans on the draymen. This is not because anything has changed on the ramp but we believe there are many new drivers on the port who do not understand how UP Oakland Ramp works. We are all safe on this ramp.
I am opening the EMPTY LOT back up to only EMHU AND UMXU UP empty container. This will no longer be UPS ONLY. Do not park any chassis in this lot.
The gate for the WHITE AREA needs to stay locked when IMS or H&M are not in the area. The WHITE AREA is UPS ONLY.
Drayman, do not remove anything from the WHITE AREA
The UP recently had an accident in LA with a truck not obeying stop signs while crossing railroad tracks on the UP Ramp. As a result, it collided with a locomotive and the driver needed to be airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
The Oakland Ramp is conducting a Safety Blitz on Stop Sign and Speed Limits (15 MPH) compliance and will continue to audit on a regular basis.
Each work shift should begin with a job safety briefing that covers any risks that may affect your safety and the safety of those around you. Make sure that you clearly understand how the work is to be safely performed. Ask questions if you have them. Take a moment to re-brief whenever the task or circumstances change.

Union Pacific Oakland Ramp will have a Safety Meeting. Some of the topics they will cover will be the new processes they have established on the ramp, safety rules, common failures and how they are trying to get your drivers on and off the ramp faster and safer. Each dray company is strongly encourage to have representation at the meeting. Owners and managers are recommended along with dispatcher and equipment personnel. They also encourage each company to bring a few of their drayman drivers to the meeting as well. This will give UPRR a real view of the drivers on the ramp.
